Downtown

Location

The Downtown neighbourhood is no doubt the entertainment and residential hub for the ever-expanding, and thriving city of London, Ontario! The boundaries lay between the Thames River, Adelaide Street, Oxford Street and Dundas Street. Within this area, there is no shortage of amenities, beautiful residential buildings (old and new) and entertainment. This region is the heart of the city, and the benefits of living here are many. Whether residents are looking for a slow-paced day in the beloved Victoria Park with their dogs, want to enjoy a hockey game with the family, or are engaging in the nightlife with friends on the famous Richmond Row – Downtown will not disappoint.

Neighbourhood

London is known for being ‘residential to the core’; this is evident as the housing areas Downtown are well preserved. Many of the properties are apartment buildings and condos, in three or four-storey buildings. The houses in this area range from spectacular Victorian-style homes to smaller traditional Ontario cottages and marvellous Queen Anne style estates. This range of development means the community is diverse and people of all ages and income levels can appreciate the area. From rental properties for students to grand architectural gems tucked away, this area has a ton to offer property wise.

The neighbourhood is vibrant and full of life. There is a very present sense of community with many locally owned coffee shops and restaurants. The highlight of this district, however, is one of the most popular parks in the city – Victoria Park. This is the Forest City’s hub for annual citywide events such as Sunfest and Ribfest. Every year Victoria Park’s skating rink opens up, providing families, friends and couples with a timeless winter tradition. Victoria Park is one of the most attractive destinations for walking the dog, working out, skateboarding, catching up with friends or simply reading a book and taking in the Forest City’s lovely scenery.

Schools

There are a few schools in this district including public, Catholic, French immersion and private. Many of these are within walking distance or a short drive to homes and residences.

In addition to the proximity to elementary and secondary schools; London is home to two renowned post-secondary institutions, Western University and Fanshawe College. If you are a student or have children attending university, Downtown London is the perfect location for you. Western University is within walking distance from Downtown, and Fanshawe College is just a short drive away. This area is also close to many bus stops that go to and from each campus. From kindergarten all the way to university, this is the perfect location and city to raise kids.

Amenities

Being the heart of the city, the amenities available to Downtown residents are endless. Many of London’s best bars and restaurants can be found here (Abruzzi, Garlics, Zen’Za PizzaToboggan Brewing Co., The Tasting Room etc.). Other notable landmarks include the London Convention Centre, The Grand TheatreLondon Music HallMuseum London, The Covent Garden Market, and many art galleries. Citi Plaza (formerly Galleria Mall) is historic to the city as it was North America’s first Downtown mall. An honourable mention goes to Budweiser Gardens which is home to the London Knight’s hockey team and the London Lightning basketball team. This arena has provided London with unlimited entertainment of sports, concerts and miscellaneous events since 2002!

In addition to being the entertainment core of the city, Downtown is home to London’s Central Business District. These businesses include law firms, tech and communications, financial services and an abundance of government companies. Via Rail train and Greyhound bus stations are also within proximity to the Downtown boundaries.

Just a short walk, drive or bus to everything one many need including groceries, shopping and entertainment – Downtown, London has everything a resident might need in their neighbourhood.
