Sherwood Forest

Location

Sherwood Forest is a residential neighborhood that is located in the Northwest area of London. It’s located just north of the Orchard Park neighborhood, off of Wonderland Road and Gainsborough Road. It’s boundary lines go down to Lawson Road it follows the curve of the Medway Valley Heritage Forest. This beautiful neighborhood is set in an incredible location. It’s close to many great amenities and is nestled into such beautiful greenery and nature. Many of the homes have beautiful views of the wooded area of Medway Valley Heritage Forest. 

Neighborhood

Sherwood Forest is a charming neighborhood that is cradled by a beautiful wooded backdrop. The streetscapes are stunning as the neighborhood is filled with large, mature trees and beautiful 1950s and 1960s era houses along with some newer builds. The neighborhood is completely made up of single family homes. The homes have a wide range of styles and sizes, with some of the homes getting quite large in size. Most of the larger homes are tucked into the Medway Valley Heritage Forest and have absolutely incredible views The housing prices have a large range because the sizes vary so greatly. The prices range from the mid to high $400,000s for the more modest homes and go all the way up to the mid to high $900,000s for the larger and more extravagant houses. 

The Sherwood Forest neighborhood also falls under the Orchard Park Sherwood Forest Ratepayers, which is a neighborhood organization. It promotes community, represents the interests of residents, and raises concerns regarding developments and changes, as well as regarding traffic and environmental protection. 

Schools

While there are no schools that fall within the Sherwood Forest neighborhood, there are multiple that are close by and could possibly even be within walking distance for some of the families. Those schools are St. Thomas More Catholic Elementary School and Orchard Park Public School, which are both located inside of Orchard Park neighborhood. Across the street from Sherwood Forest is Sir Frederick Banting Secondary School, which means that it can also be within walking distance for those in the neighborhood who live closer to Wonderland Road. 

Brescia University College, Ivey Business School, Huron University College, and The University of Western Ontario campus are all super close to this neighborhood, giving quick and easy access.

Amenities

Sherwood Forest is a beautiful neighborhood with plenty of green space close by and is close to so many options for necessities, shopping and great place to grab a bite to eat. 

There are a number of parks close to the neighborhood that provide stunning green space, which gives people a great excuse to get out of their homes, get active, and enjoy the sunshine in the warmer months of the year. These parks are within walking distance and can be a place for families to have picnics, play catch, run around, kick around a ball, or even play frisbee. Rollingwood Circle Park has lots of large trees surrounding a stretch of green space. AL Furanna Park is a larger stretch of green space that heads all the way up to Orchard Park Public School. Ruskin Park is a small park off of Sarnia that is green space with beautiful large trees that provide the perfect shade for a picnic or for playing catch. Gretna Green Park is another small park within this neighborhood that is green space for playing catch or laying back in the summertime to read a book or just enjoy the outdoors. 

The Medway Valley Heritage Forest cradles a large part of Sherwood Forest. It’s a stunning and peaceful, large wooded area that was a flowing creek and a network of winding walking trails. It’s a great park for hiking, birdwatching, and even fishing. 

There is also Medway Park across the street from Sherwood Forest. It’s a fun park for families as kids will love the skate park, the green space, multiple play structures, a swing set, and even a splash pad. 

Sherwood Forest Mall is across from this neighborhood and has necessities, places to shop, and places to eat. For the necessities it has Canada Post, a variety store, gas station, Food Basics, Dollarama, banks, a Pet Valu, Shoppers Drug Mart, and a GoodLife Fitness. For shopping and fun there is an LCBO, Goodwill Community Store and Donation Centre, Beer Store, and the Sherwood Branch of London Public Library. In terms of places to eat McDonalds, Tim Hortons, Subway, Pizza Pizza, and Nemats provide quick and delicious options, but Bernie’s Bar and Grill is a great place for a family meal, dinner with friends, or a date night. 

Cherryhill Village Mall is another amenity close by. It has necessities, delicious eats, and shopping. Inside the mall is King of the Pigs, Metro, Passport Office, Shoppers Drug Mart, Bulk Barrel, Canada Post, Gino’s Pizza, banks, London Public Library Cherryhill Branch, and a dollar store. 

The Medway Arena is right across the street from Sherwood Forest and is a great place for families to enjoy ice skating together and also hosts hockey leagues. The Canada Games Aquatic Centre is also right across the street from this neighborhood. The Aquatic center has an olympic sized pool, multiple swim lanes, and a number of heights for diving boards. 

Sherwood Forest is very close to the University district and all that it has to offer, making this a great location for families with University students who wish to save some money and stay at home during their studies. The neighborhood also boasts quick and easy access to downtown London as well, which means you’re close to some of London’s best restaurants, incredible entertainment, and unique shopping boutiques. 

There are multiple amenities down Wonderland Road with multiple shopping districts at Beaverbrook and Oxford Street. This means Sherwood Forest is close to necessities, delicious food, entertainment, and even fitness centres. For necessities there is Sobeys Extra, Costco Wholesale, Farm Boy, RONA, LCBO, Food Island Supermarket, Rexall, Angela’s Italian Bakery and Market, Medical clinic, gas stations, and banks. For entertainment and fitness there is Fit4Less, Fleetway, Hybrid Fitness, Movati Athletic London, Hobby and Toy Central, and the Forest Glen Golf Centre. For great places for food and drink these shopping districts include Chatime, State and Main, Heart Sushi, Firehouse Subs, QDOBA Mexican Eats, Sunset Grill, Ozen Korea, Gangnam Style Korean BBQ, Kimchi House, and Pizza Projekt
