Old North

Location

Old North is one of the most prestigious and beautiful neighbourhoods in the city of London, Ontario. Location is everything for the residents of this Forest City neighbourhood. It’s part of central London and is situated between the downtown core and the University district. It is bordered by the Thames River (north and west), Adelaide Street (east) and Oxford Street (south). Old North is conveniently located near major roads and intersections, provident residents with easy access to the rest of the city. The central location offers a quaint getaway full of small streets lined with mature, towering trees and foliage. 

Neighborhood

One drive through Old North will leave a lasting impression on potential buyers. Residents from Old North are proud of their neighbourhood and there is a present sense of community. The neighbourhood is full of single detached gems and the occasional apartment building. These homes vary from elegant Victorian-style, custom contemporary designs to stately executive housing. There are also plenty of properties suited perfectly for investments as student houses, especially with the proximity to Western University. 

At a higher price point, with the average price point being in the mid to high $500,000s, Old North properties offer lush manicured lawns and tall trees combined with beautifully designed and fully renovated mature homes. The exterior of many houses in this area offer a rustic and elegant feel while newly renovated interiors provide a contemporary and welcoming atmosphere. Students living in Old North have plenty of options for schools including private, Catholic, public and French immersion. St. George’s Public School and Ryerson Public School are both located directly within the boundaries of this neighborhood and are within walking distance for many families. In addition to elementary and secondary schooling, Old North’s location is ideal for students attending Western University. This neighbourhood is directly located beside the Western campus gate and King’s University College at Western University.

Amenities

Old North is a great location for amenities. Adelaide Street and Oxford Street boasts essential amenities, and this neighborhood’s close proximity to downtown means being close to incredible restaurants, excellent night life, unique shopping, and endless entertainment. On top of that, there are a number of amazing parks in and around the neighborhood, which encourages healthy, active lifestyles. 

Residents can head to the intersection of Adelaide and Huron. Here, they can shop for groceries at the Fresh Co. or the United Supermarket, get gas at Petro-Canada, shop at the Beer Store, Pet Paradise or Shoppers Drug Mart. There is also a bank and a Goodwill Bookstore there, as well as Mela Mae Ice Cream, Marino’s Restaurant, KFC, and a Wendy’s. Down Adelaide a little more is Metro, a gas station, a car wash, Pazoon’s Pizza, Cora Breakfast and Lunch, and Bento Sushi. 

At Adelaide and Oxford, families can enjoy the Palasad SocialBowl, GoodLife Fitness, and Escapology. There is also excellent shopping at SUNRIPE Freshmarket and Shoppers Drug Mart. Down Oxford Street there is a Rexall, banks, a gas station, and a Valu-mart. 

Just a short cab ride to and from the downtown core, this location makes it easy for residents to enjoy a night out with friends and shop on the famous Richmond Row. Take advantage of the many locally owned retailers and restaurants such as Haven’s Creamery, Reverie, The Tasting Room, Toboggan, Black Trumpet, Sakata, and more. 

There are a number of great restaurants within Old North as well, such as The Bungalow, which has some of the best burgers in London, Mega Pizza, King Richie’s Pizzeria, and more! 

For incredible parks, residents of Old North have many options, such as Ross Park, Sunshine Park, Gibbons Park, Doidge Park, and of course, the biking and walking trails of the Thames River Parkway. The parks offer residents a tennis court, playgrounds, swings, basketball courts, a pool, a spray pad, picnic shelters, green space, and even hills that are perfect for tobogganing in the winter. 

All in all, Old North is a wonderful neighbourhood to shop for houses. It is aimed at a buyer with a higher budget, but the variety of sizing and styles – old and new – provides a bit of something for buyers with varying budgets.
