London is known for its numerous incredible craft breweries. Well, it’s high time that we start noticing the small coffee roasters popping up all over the city. Patricks Beans is one of those small roasters. Patrick’s Beans sells fresh, organic, and direct trade coffee beans. Every single one of his beans is hand-roasted personally by Patrick himself. But really, what you need to know, is that Patrick’s Beans creates seriously delicious cups of coffee.
Patrick’s Beans is located in over 50 local businesses. You can find their hot brewed coffee in many of your favourite local spots such as Hunter & Co., Los Lobos, Plant Matter Kitchen, La Noisette Bakery, Rhino Lounge, Social Bowl, Root Cellar, and The Artisan Bakery. They also sell their beans and their loose-leaf tea in various local businesses and markets throughout London and surrounding areas.
Patrick’s Beans makes delicious, high-quality coffee, tea, and candy, but the story of Patrick’s Beans goes so much deeper than that. This little, local roaster has made a huge impact on the community. From working with other local businesses to the philosophies that govern the brand, to the ways that they give back, Patrick’s Beans is a company worth paying attention to.
The Story
Just like a sommelier can tell you tasting notes and details about a wine just by tasting it, those who really love coffee can pick out notes of caramel or cocoa or berries from their coffee just by sipping it. Patrick is one of those people. He looks at roasting coffee in the same way that a chef looks at creating a meal. He cares about tasting notes, balance, and mouthfeel.
Because beans taste different based on the country that they were grown in, Patrick creates blends by taking beans from different countries and then increases or decreases the roast to make the perfect blend. It’s art and science coming together to create something truly delicious.
Patrick took the culinary food program at Fanshawe College. At the young age of 21, he was the head chef at Bon Appetit on Richmond Row. From there he worked at a number of different restaurants all across Canada and Europe. After working as a Red Seal chef for over 15 years, he ran his own catering company.
In a display of fate, Patrick ran into Dave Cook at the Western Fair Farmer’s Market. At that time Dave had JUST launched Fire Roasted Coffee Company. Patrick became Fireroasted’s first employee. It was a great fit since as a chef he had spent hours learning how to properly roast coffee beans and how to brew the perfect pot. After years of working at Fire Roasted, and then as a sales manager for a different coffee company, Patrick finally decided to create his own coffee company.
In 2014, Patrick founded Patrick’s Beans. Ever a stickler for quality control, Patrick hand roasts every single bean himself, knowing that consistency is essential to cultivate coffee blend loyalty. Patrick’s Beans sells retail, wholesale, and he has partnered with many local London restaurants and cafes, providing them with their own special and unique blends. When creating signature blends for local restaurants, Patrick takes into consideration the wonders’ tastes, the vibe of the establishment, and what kind of customers they have. That way, even if restaurants and cafes on the same block sell Patrick’s Beans coffee, they’ll each have a completely unique taste.
The Philosophy
There are three questions that Patrick asks himself whenever he makes a decision for his business: is it good for people; is it food for local communities; is it good for the environment. Through those questions, Patrick’s Beans has become a beloved coffee roaster in London and surrounding areas.
Patrick’s Beans builds long-term relationships with other small, local businesses. The goal is to establish opportunities and relationships that benefit everyone involved (including the consumer). Patrick’s Beans is committed to working with great people, both locally and from the countries where he sources his beans. All of the beans are ethically sourced and are traded directly from the farmers who grow them. His products come from all-natural ingredients.
Patrick’s Beans believes in supporting the community that supports his business. He gives back to the community through The Beanstalk Project. On top of that, he works with other local businesses and teams up with them for giveaways, events, and more.
Patrick’s Beans is committed to making business decisions that are good for the environment. Their roastery is Bullfrog Powered, which means that it is run with 100% green electricity that comes from natural resources (wind and water) across Canada. This reduces their emissions footprint and supports renewable Canadian energy. The bags that their coffee beans come in are also completely biodegradable.
On top of all of that, all of the products from Patrick’s Beans are all organic and direct trade.
The Fundraising
For anyone looking for fundraising options out there, consider Patrick’s Beans. Chocolate bar fundraising has been done to death. Why not fundraise with something that everyone can appreciate? A good cup of coffee.
Patrick’s Beans offers fundraising opportunities. There are no hidden fees, no delivery charges, and no extra charges for grinding. He offers both ½ pound and 1 pound bags of coffee options. Plus, you can get a custom label printed on your coffee for a one-time fee.
The Beanstalk Project
When Patrick created Patrick’s Beans, he knew that he wanted to give back to the community supporting his dreams. A well-supported community can support their local businesses. A well-supported local business can support their local community. It’s a beautiful economic circle and one that Patrick’s Beans believe in deeply.
Through the Beanstalk Project, Patrick’s Beans donates one percent of all of their roasted beans to local non-profits, emergency shelters, and food aid programs. At the heart of it, Patrick’s Beans believes that every single person deserves to wake up in the morning to a good cup of coffee, regardless of their financial or living situation. And through The Beanstalk Project, Patrick’s Beans can help that be a reality.
The Coffee – Signature Blends
Patrick’s Bean is a brand that makes coffee approachable. Coffee doesn’t have to have confusing and complex tasting notes that verbiage that the regular Joe doesn’t understand. Anyone can walk in off the street, look at their options in Patrick’s Beans and make an informed decision to buy a coffee they feel confident that they’ll enjoy. It’s that simple.
All of the coffee beans are roasted in small batches to ensure quality and consistency. After all, Patrick understands coffee blend loyalty. Once customers find a blend that they love, they keep coming back to that blend again and again, and they can tell if there are any changes. Any small change to their favourite blend simply will NOT do.
As a master roaster and a professional chef, Patrick has created the perfect blends that he knows people will love. Plus, dollar for dollar, Patrick’s Beans offer the best value for the best price. Check out Patrick Bean’s seven signature blends:

Super F’N Dark – This extra dark roast was created for those who love a seriously strong cup of coffee. It’s got all of the dark roast flavours without the bitterness. The beans come from Sumatra and Guatemala.
Shotgun Romance – Shotgun Romance is an espresso roast. There are five different separately roasted beans that come together to create an Italian-styled espresso roast.
Cups of Anarchy – This dark roast has a bold flavour and a strong finish. It’s made from a mix of Guatemalan and Colombian beans with a splash of African Robusta for an extra kick of caffeine.
